Modern Kitchen Design with White Vertical Tiles

The tiled range hood adds a sense of personality especially given its round shape, to the clean and modern appearance created by the combination of natural wood kitchen cabinets and white counters. The kitchens coherent and fashionable appearance is further enhanced by the base cabinetry and flooring’s harmonizing complements which unify the entire design concept.

How to tile a range hood?

The installation of the tiles on the range hood is the same as the wall applications. Before the installation, if there isn’t, you need to make a hood box. This way you can install the tiles on this box. To create this kind of box, you can use wood panels. Then you can start the preparation.

Preparation

First, you need to measure the walls and determine the square footage. The square footage will determine how many tiles you need for your project. To find the square footage, multiply the width and height of the backsplash area and divide by 144 to convert the result to square feet. You can apply this method to each side of the range hood.
Then, move the appliances from the counter. To protect the countertops, place a cardboard board or cloth and secure it with painter’s tape. Also, you can cover the countertops with a plastic sheet. Also, don’t forget to clean the surfaces which you will tile.

Plan the Layout

It is important to define the layout of the tiles before the installation. This helps you to achieve a perfect look and avoid unmatched corners and unfilled blanks. You can lay the tiles on the counter to define the layout.

Cut Tiles

Once define the layout, you know which tiles need to be cut. For cutting, you need to use a specialized tool according to your material. For example, ceramic tiles can be cut with a simple tile cutter but if you are using marble tiles, you need to use a wet saw with a diamond blade to prevent chipping.

Install Tiles

Once prepare all these steps, you are ready for the installation. Mix the adhesive in a bucket, and apply the adhesive with a notched trowel in small sections. Spread the adhesive with the trowel and press at a 45-degree angle. Then start laying the tiles on the adhesive. Do these steps until you cover the whole area. Some types of tiles need also spacers to secure them. If your tile needs spacers, place them after placing each tile. Allow the adhesive to dry for at least 24 hours.

Grouting

After the tiles are set in place, apply the grout with a grout float and press it to fill the grout lines by using 45-degree angled motions. Once you have filled all the lines, wait 10-15 minutes and wipe the tile surfaces with water and a sponge. Then, allow the grout to dry. It is better to check the directions to find out how long you need to wait. Now, you are ready to use your brand-new tiled range hood!
