Feel through the liner for the drain flange bolts and gently trim the liner to fit just outside the bolts. Apply silicone caulk around the drain flange’s outside border before bolting down the upper part of the drain assembly. To keep the plumbing safe, cover the top of the drain with masking tape or duct tape. Over the vinyl liner, you may now glue the cement board to the walls.
Then, cut and put the galvanized expanded metal lath on top of the liner, making sure it doesn’t contact the cement board walls. Maintaining the same slope, apply another coat of mortar to the lath.
The Tile Laying
It’s finally time to install the tile. Ideally, tile the shower walls first, followed by the floor. Dry lay the tiles to ensure proper arrangement and precut any tiles that need to be resized to fit. Spread the thin-set using a notched trowel. As you place the tiles, wash them down with water and a clean sponge.
To ensure consistent spacing, use tile spacers. Allow the mortar to cure and mix for another 24 hours before filling in the grout using a grouting float. To remove excess grout, use a moist sponge to wipe off the tiles. Check the grout instructions to see how long you should wait before using cheesecloth to remove the grout haze.
