How to install a teardrop backsplash?

It takes careful planning and having all the materials ready before you begin. To determine how many tiles you will need, you can determine the length and height of all the areas to be tiled and calculate the square meters, then add 10 percent to your total for your loss calculation. It’s a good idea to check your local tile or big box stores to make sure they have enough of the tile of your choice in stock. After dealing with these, the preliminary preparation for the installation is now complete.

For installation

First, clean the Countertops completely. Protect countertops well by covering them with heavy-duty paper or plastic drop cloth and painter’s tape. Remove the switch plates.

Locate the teardrop backsplash by delimiting and taping the area to be covered. Sand the area to be used thoroughly. These tapes protect areas that will not be applied during sanding.

Combine the water and mortar mix in a deep bucket, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Mix thoroughly until the mortar has the consistency of peanut butter without lumps.

Next, place a spirit level on the existing counter space to make sure it’s level. If not, you can look at where it falls or rises so you can fit a wider line of caulk between the tile and countertop if needed. Dip the notched trowel into the mortar and spread it evenly over a small section of the wall.

Start by applying the full tiles where the backsplash meets the counter. In this case, the tiles surrounding the bottom of the cabinets will be cut according to the remaining size. As you apply the tile layers, slide the spacers under the bottom row of the tile to create a cavity that will later be filled with caulk.

Hold an entire tile in front of the area you need to cover and mark with a pencil where you need to cut. Turn on the wet tile saw, allowing the water to coat the blade. Cut the tile with the knife along the line you marked.

Use the spirit level to make sure you get a straight line. This is especially important behind the built-in hob, that is, in areas where it does not rest on the countertop.

Grout

After the grout is completely cured, you can remove the spacers and use damp paper towels to clean the tile surface to remove any grout or dust particles.

Mix the mortar thoroughly after the set time. Dip one end of the grout float into the bucket and apply it to the wall using enough pressure to work the grout into the spaces between the tiles. Finish by applying joint sealant from multiple angles to work quickly to minimize joint gaps and provide an even coating.

Wait for the joints on the tile surface to dry completely and then clean the surface thoroughly with a damp joint sponge in circular motions.

You can complete the finishes properly by filling the gaps between the counter and the tile with the help of a caulk.
